Appointment Viewing for Aspiring Singers and Sous Chefs

Top Chef
Top Chef returns this Saturday following a month’s absence for ‘poor viewership’, according to TV3.  When the seventh season of Top Chef, set in Washington DC, first started airing here in July we were just four weeks behind American audiences, but now we’re really bringing up the rear with only three more episodes set to screen in the U.S. before the winner is revealed.  TV3 will continue the season starting with episode 4.  TV3 originally said they would bring Top Chef back later in the year, was it always their intention to bring it back now or did the legion of angry Top Chef fans on their message boards hasten it’s reappearance?

Top Chef has traditionally been Thursday night fare so it will be interesting to see how it does in the new Saturday timeslot.  Will you still be watching now that it’s moved to the weekend?  Either way, we’re just happy to see the return of one of our favourite cooking shows, an Emmy-winning one at that!

The X Factor
The third season of the X Factor Australia, a spin off from the Pop Idol franchise (which WE invented by the way!) debuts tonight on TV3.  The show hadn’t even started when it ran into trouble when host Matthew Newton left the production following rumours of his ongoing drug dependency problems and allegations of domestic abuse.  Kyle Sandilands of Australia Idol fame returns to play the role of the requisite ‘mean’ judge.  He has a prestigious panel of co-judges in former Idol winner Guy Sebastian, actress and singer (and former Mrs Daniel Johns) Natalie Imbruglia, and that loveable Irish rogue who makes all the nanas quiver, Ronan Keating.
The second episode of The X Factor will screen on Friday night after New Zealand’s Next Top Model.  Take the phone off the hook people!  Friday night looks worth staying in for.
